- A botanist and member of the Indian Civil Service,Sir Allen, was the brain behind the concept of starting a zoological park in Kanpur.
- Hence it is named after Sir Allen.
- The Allen Forest Zoo came into effect in the year 1971.

- Among the animals, reptiles and birds present in the zoo, one can enjoy the presence of tigers, cheetahs, leopards, deer, antelopes, bears, monkeys, languor, hyena, baboon, and many more.
- Ostrich, parrots, crane, parakeets and emus among other European fowls are a treat for the sore eyes!
